Born in Bombay in 1976, Shilpa Gupta is considered one of the most promising talents on the artistic scene in India. Through the use of interactive videos, web sites, installations, photography and performances, she explores society and power structures in the age of globalization as well as our imagination and subconscious. She delves into the subjects of racism-related terrorism, religious fundamentalism, our obsession with security, alienating frontiers and areas of conflict between individuals. We follow this artist in the labyrinth of the crowded, chaotic streets of her beloved city of Mumbai, an endless source of inspiration, and observe the realization of various works exhibited in Paris and Lyon.

Née en 1976 à Bombay (Mumbai), Shilpa Gupta est considérée comme l’un des talents les plus prometteurs de la scène artistique indienne. Elle pose un regard troublant sur la globalisation et ses avancées technologiques dans des installations interactives ou des performances publiques qui lui donnent l’occasion de sonder société et systèmes de pouvoir mais aussi notre imaginaire et notre inconscient. Ses vidéos interactives, sites Internet, installations, photographies et performances explorent notamment les thèmes de la terreur, des intégrismes religieux, l’obsession sécuritaire, les frontières aliénantes ou les zones de conflit entre les individus. La réalisatrice Alyssa Verbizh a suivi Shilpa Gupta dans le dédale des rues de Mumbai, son environnement le plus intime, une des sources d’inspiration primordiales de ses œuvres. On assiste à l’élaboration de plusieurs œuvres multimédias et sculpturales que l’on retrouve ensuite, en compagnie de l’artiste, dans des expositions à Paris et à Lyon.
